About George
I obtained my Bachelor's degree in business while enlisted in the US Army as a full-time soldier. I scored in the 91st percentile on my LSAT and graduated from Boston College Law School in 2020. I practiced criminal law for a bit before deciding to further my education with a Master's degree in the History of Political Thought from Queen Mary University London. I also have a TEFL certification with over 120 hours of in-class training.
I taught English and Language Arts for a year at a public middle school in Brooklyn as well as group and 1-on-1 ESL tutoring in Central Europe for college students and adults.
My background has enabled me to specialize in different types of test prep, from the ASVAB to the LSAT as well as various international English tests. With degrees in business, history, and law -- from elite US and UK universities -- I can provide instruction tailored to many different levels and interests. We will begin with a needs assessments which will give me an idea of your skill level, interests, and goals in order to tailor our lessons to you. I am a believer in grounding lessons in real life context as much as possible while being fun and imaginative. My hope is to build and maintain the intrinsic motivation of my students because that is what leads to consistent learning -- and consistency is key!
My TEFL program trained me a number of methodologies, and my lesson plans generally follow the Engage, Study, Activate (ESA) method. This means the meat of the lesson comes in the Activation stage, putting the hardest cognitive task on the learner. We take the skills learned in the Study phase and "activate" them with a goal-oriented task grounded in a real world context. This can range from designing original fantasy characters and writing short stories for them to drafting resumes, cover letters, and personal statements.
While I pull from many different resources, I enjoy writing original lesson plans for my students. This ensures that we are working toward your goals and following your interests.
