About Jacky
Hi there! I’m Jacky (Wing Kit Cheung), a University of California, San Diego graduate with a degree in Mathematics and Economics. Over the years, I’ve helped students from elementary school through high school not only master their coursework but also develop genuine confidence in math. I believe every student learns differently, so I customize my approach to match individual learning styles—whether you’re a visual learner, an auditory learner, or someone who thrives on hands-on practice. Outside of tutoring, you’ll find me hiking in the mountains, experimenting in the kitchen, or exploring new ways to make math feel like solving a fun puzzle.
Credentials & Experience
UCSD Mathematics & Economics graduate
3+ years tutoring experience (elementary, middle, high school, AP Calculus AB/BC, statistics)
Proven track record helping students improve grades, boost exam scores, and overcome math anxiety

Teaching Approach
Personalized Learning Plan
I begin every student relationship with a brief assessment (or conversation) to pinpoint strengths, gaps, and preferred learning styles.
From there, I design a roadmap that builds foundational understanding before tackling advanced concepts.
Step-by-Step Progression
Lessons always start with a quick review of prior material to reinforce retention.
New topics are introduced in small, manageable increments, ensuring mastery of each concept before moving forward.
Active Problem-Solving
Math is a “learn-by-doing” subject. I integrate targeted practice problems throughout the session, gradually increasing difficulty so you gain confidence with each step.
I encourage students to think aloud, propose solutions, and explain their reasoning—this builds critical thinking skills and identifies misconceptions early.
Real-World Applications
Whenever possible, I link abstract math concepts to everyday contexts (e.g., using geometry to understand architecture, or statistics to interpret sports data).
By seeing “why” behind the math, students become more engaged and motivated.
Regular Feedback & Adjustments
After each lesson, I provide clear feedback on areas to review and practice.
I adjust the pace and focus based on ongoing performance—if a topic needs more reinforcement, we slow down; if a student is ready to accelerate, we dive deeper.
What to Expect in a Lesson
First 10 Minutes: Quick review of last session’s key concepts and homework questions.
Next 30 Minutes: Introduction to a new concept (e.g., derivatives in Calculus) with worked examples and guided practice.
Final 20 Minutes: Independent practice problems, address questions, and set clear action items.
Ongoing Support: I’m available via email or messaging between sessions for quick clarifications or homework help.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Jacky majored in mathematics and economics in UC San Diego, which is one of the best public schools in the United States, so I have no doubt in his knowledge and expertise. He has been a great tutor in the sense that he explains concepts very clearly and answered questions accurately. He always manages to break down complex concepts into smaller parts which is very helpful for understanding. Lastly, he is very patient which is a perfect quality for a teacher. Therefore I would definitely recommend him as a tutor!!
I am one of Jacky’s student. I was able to learn math concepts easily by attending his interactive class. He was able to explain math topics with detail and clearly.
I think Jacky is a good teacher. He provide detail explanation of the topics that I find confusing. Beside, he motivated and encouraged me to try on doing problems set.
