About Dr James
As a university Lecturer I taught the skills of designing, researching, and writing theses and dissertations for over a decade and chaired or served on dozens of thesis committees across disciplines.
I've also been Associate Managing Editor overseeing Social Sciences for a major interdisciplinary journal (Oxford University Press / National Academy of Sciences), and have published books, chapters and articles with major journals and publishers.
I work with students in humanities and social sciences and am experienced with scientific writing and writing for engineers. I am also CELTA qualified and experienced working with non-native English speakers. I am passionate about guiding undergraduate and postgraduate scholars, and writers of all kinds, to the best possible version of their project!

I offer tailored, holistic tutoring and academic project support for undergraduate, MA or PhD dissertations, major papers, or book projects. We begin by discussing the parameters of the project or coursework and your personal goals, developing a timeline tailored to your schedule and needs.
Specific stages could include: Developing research questions or broad themes and conceiving the project; surveying the field and creating a research plan; outlining / structuring and drafting; editing and revising; final proofing or help with refining language.
Our tutoring sessions are a space for personalised feedback, friendly support, and whatever you may need to succeed! Students always walk away with notes we draft together to consult later! If you require big-picture editing or copy-editing: you can book slots based on the word-count of your document. You'll send it to me, and I will use the time to either craft personalised written feedback and suggestions; or a full-service proof and copy-edit, depending on your needs.
