About David
I have been a mathematics instructor and professional educator for 30 years. I began my career as a high school teacher with a focus on teaching Algebra and Geometry. For the last several years, I have been part of the Mathematics Faculty at a community college and my focus has been on teaching developmental mathematics and beginning algebra. My focus has always been on finding ways to help students be successful by building fundamental knowledge and the confidence that "they can do it"! Through my experience, I've discovered that most students have difficulty in math because they have lost their confidence in understanding the content, and the lack of confidence creates anxiety. Creating opportunities for success will build the confidence needed to continue to be successful!

The focus will be on building on the student's understanding and existing strengths. I use different engagement strategies to allow the student the opportunity to use their prior knowledge and understanding to build their abilities in mathematics. The focus is not on solving specific problem types, but building a strong understanding of mathematic properties so students learn to be comfortable with mathematics. The goal is to help students be confident working mathematically when they encounter new ideas, and mathematics they consider difficult.
I use clear explanations, concrete examples and non-examples, and student engagement with the content to build the foundations needed to be successful.
My target student group are beginning college students who are taking developmental math courses, intermediate algebra, college algebra, or liberal arts math. Also, high school and middle school algebra students who need reinforcement.
