I am an experienced (16 years) tutor in the 14+ learning sector of English, ICT, Mathematics and HomeBased Childcare.
I have Level 4 and 5 specialist tutor qualifications in supporting adult learners in English and Mathematics (Teeside 2006 2010) . I have a B.A. Hons degree in Post - Compulsory Education. (Sunderland /OU 2006).
I gained these qualifications whilst working full time and part time in adult education teaching situations, demonstrating my ability to cope with a demanding workload successfully, and effectively org
I hold a Certificate of Education teaching qualification (2004)
I have taught extensively in both classroom based and e-learning situations. My most recent teaching experience being the support via e-learning of adult learners undertaking English and Mathematics Functional Skills qualifications as part of their Apprenticeships in Hospitality.
In this role I have effectively managed a very large workload at times, developed meaningful relationships with learners, including pastoral care where appropriate.
I hold counselling skills certificates to Level 3 and have used these skills effectively with learners. I believe in a personalised learning approach for each learner, to enable them to achieve their learning goals in a caring learning environment.
I have developed a wide range of courses for learners as a classroom based tutors, written lesson and session plans and formulated individual learning plans by negotiation with learners.
I have a specialist interest in dyslexia and dyscalculia and in supporting learners with learning difficulties.
I have written Functional Skills external assessments for examination boards, and extensive resources for learners, some of which have been shared on learning websites
I have taught Home Based Childcare (Early Years) to NVQ Level 3 for colleges and the National Childminding Association, and ICT skills to Level 2 for colleges and community learning providers, including Durham County Council and AgeUK. My teaching in Early Years stemmed from my 15 years working as a Registered Childminder.
As a Disabled person I consider myself particularly attuned to the needs of learners with disabilities. My disabilites are of a nature affecting my mobility and do not affect my communication skills.
I am a member of The Society for Education and Training and committed to continuous professional development
