About Ward
I am a dedicated and experienced piano tutor with both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Music. Over the 10 years, I have taught students of all ages, from beginners to advanced players preparing for exams or performances. My teaching style is student-focused, aiming to create lessons that are engaging, practical, and tailored to individual needs. I use real-life examples and case studies to make musical concepts like rhythm, melody, and harmony relatable. Motivation is a key part of my approach, and I encourage students to set achievable goals and celebrate every milestone. Problem-solving is integrated into each lesson, helping students analyse challenges and develop independent thinking. I emphasise integrity and professionalism, providing a safe and supportive environment for learning. I am flexible, adjusting lessons to each student’s pace, style, and interests. Along with piano, I teach music theory, sight-reading, ear training, and basic composition. I help students prepare for exams, competitions, and performances while fostering creativity and discipline. My lessons are suitable for learners of all ages, online or in-person. I focus on building both technical skill and artistic expression. Students gain confidence, independence, and a lifelong appreciation for music. Every lesson is designed to be enjoyable, meaningful, and productive. My ultimate goal is to help students express themselves musically and develop a lasting passion for piano.

My teaching methodology is centred on helping students understand music in a real and meaningful way. I believe learning piano should be more than just memorising notes — it should connect to real-life experiences, emotions, and creativity. I use real-life examples and case studies to make lessons practical and engaging. For example, when teaching rhythm, I relate it to natural patterns like walking or speaking; when explaining harmony, I compare it to teamwork or colours blending in art. This approach helps students not only play correctly but also understand how music expresses ideas and emotions found in everyday life. I focus strongly on motivation because every student learns best when they feel inspired. I set achievable goals and celebrate progress, no matter how small, to build confidence and consistency. Each lesson is designed to be enjoyable and rewarding, so students stay curious and excited about learning. I encourage them to explore different styles of music — from classical and pop to jazz — to find what speaks to them personally. My lessons also include problem-solving activities to develop independent thinking. Instead of giving every answer directly, I guide students to discover solutions by analysing patterns, rhythms, or phrasing on their own. This not only strengthens musical understanding but also improves focus and self-discipline, skills that benefit students beyond the piano. Integrity is at the heart of my teaching. I believe in being honest, patient, and respectful with every learner. I value effort over perfection and promote a growth mindset, where mistakes are seen as opportunities to improve. Students learn in a supportive environment where they feel safe to express themselves and ask questions freely. Lastly, I emphasise flexibility. Every student learns differently, so I adapt my teaching style to fit individual goals, learning speeds, and interests. I offer structured lessons for exam preparation as well as relaxed, creative sessions for those learning for enjoyment. My approach can be adjusted for children, teens, or adults, whether lessons are in-person or online. In addition to piano, I can teach related music subjects such as theory, ear training, sight-reading, and basic composition. My goal is to help each student not only play the piano but also understand and appreciate music deeply. Through motivation, real-world learning, and respect, I aim to build confident, expressive, and independent musicians.
