About Lewis
I am currently a PhD student in mathematics at Queen Mary University of London focused on probabilistic methods used in combinatorial topology at Queen Mary University of London with four publications in the field. During my undergraduate in Warwick I gained ample teaching experience, leading two groups of five first year students for over 80 hours in helping with assignments and consolidation of class material. Since starting at Queen Mary I have gained further experience in delivering undergraduate material to large classes, delivering a variety of outreach lectures to secondary school students introducing them to basic topology and random graphs, as well as delivering a range one-to-one tuition sessions from GCSE to A Level up to late undergraduate and even postgraduate for a total of more than 200 hours with over half of those of those occurring online. I also have experience teaching younger students (7-14) the basics of programming in Python as a CodeToday tutor, where I taught real programming in a very hands on problem solving style. Though most of my experience tutoring mathematics has been from GCSE up to University I am happy to teach at any level. I am also available to help with STEP preparation, something I know a lot about having done all three papers when I was applying to university University : - University of Warwick - Mathematics (MMath) [First class (83%)] - Queen Mary University of London - PhD Student in Mathematics [Year 3 of 4] School : AS Levels - Computing [A] A Levels - Maths [A*] - Further Maths [A*] - Physics [A*] Prizes and Scholarships : Ian Macdonald Award £1000 at Queen Mary University of London for being the best applicant to their PhD programme ((concealed information)

I am a fellow PhD of Lewis and have worked alongside Lewis since September 2017. Lewis is a fantastic mathematician, a superb problem solver, a hard worker, enthusiastically collaborative and an excellent teacher. I have experienced first hand Lewis' ability to ellucidate complex mathematical ideas to diverse audiences both in seminar formats and one-to-one interactions. We have had many direct mathematical discussions, and Lewis has taught me a great deal about a wide range of mathematical subjects and powerful approaches to problem solving. I am also aware that Lewis is an experienced programming teacher and has run classes and individual sessions. Lewis is also an engaging person with a wide range of interests. He is easy to talk to and it is clear from my conversations with him that he takes serious effort to empathise with those around him. I feel he is an excellent tutor.
Above all else, Lewis is an excellent mathematician and experienced teacher of mathematics. I got to know him in my time as a PhD student and I can honestly say that I would recommend him without hesitation. As a tutor Lewis is an unusually highly qualified mathematician and as such would be a safe pair of hands teaching anything thrown at him. In particular, I have no doubt he would be a top rate tutor at a variety of levels: from GCSE, A Level, as well as specialised exams such as STEP and MAT, all the way through to undergraduate, Master's and even postgraduate level. It is worth emphasising that this includes mathematics modules in other numerate degrees such as Economics, Mathematical Finance and the sciences.
All told I think you would struggle to find a better maths tutor!View more recommendations
