About Daya
I have spent fourteen years guiding more than 530 students through the rigorous and rewarding practice of experimental physics. My academic background includes a doctoral degree in experimental physics and extensive research experience in optics and materials characterization. I have worked in university research laboratories, government research facilities, and schools, giving me comprehensive expertise in experimental methodology and physics education. My students have won science competitions, published research as undergraduates, and entered careers in research, engineering, and science communication. I am known for my meticulous attention to experimental detail, my passion for scientific inquiry, and my ability to teach students the patience and precision required for good science. I maintain a well-equipped home laboratory and extensive digital resources for virtual experimentation. Outside of teaching, I conduct amateur research, participate in citizen science projects, and enjoy precision hobbies such as astronomy and photography. I believe that physics is fundamentally an experimental science and that students learn it best by doing it themselves under expert guidance.

My physics teaching is deeply experimental and methodological, emphasizing the process of scientific inquiry alongside theoretical understanding. I teach experimental physics through the design, execution, analysis, and interpretation of investigations, teaching students to think like research scientists. For each topic, I guide students through the process of identifying variables, controlling conditions, selecting appropriate measurement techniques, and evaluating uncertainty. Data analysis is taught using graphical methods, statistical techniques, and computational tools, including Python and spreadsheet software. I emphasize the importance of reproducibility, peer review, and the honest reporting of results, including unexpected or negative findings. For theoretical topics, I teach the historical development of physical theories, showing how experimental evidence drives theoretical change. My lessons include extensive use of virtual laboratories, simulation tools, and video analysis of real experiments. For exam preparation, I teach students to design valid experiments, analyze data critically, and communicate findings with scientific precision. I also mentor students in science fair projects, research competitions, and the development of independent investigative skills.
