About Nafeesa
I am a fourth-year Electrical Engineering student at the University of British Columbia with over two years of tutoring experience at Smart Kookie Tutorials. During this time, I have successfully mentored and tutored more than 30 students, ranging in age from 10 to 17 years old, in a wide range of subjects including English, ESL, Math, Precalculus, Calculus, Physics, Chemistry, and more. Working with students from diverse backgrounds and age groups has been exceptionally rewarding, and I find great joy in helping them achieve their academic goals. Observing their growth and progress brings me immense satisfaction, and I am dedicated to creating a supportive and engaging learning environment during each tutoring session.
In addition to my tutoring experience, I also have valuable experience working with students with learning disabilities such as autism and ADHD. I have provided guidance and support to students with diverse learning needs, adapting my teaching methods and materials to accommodate their individual strengths and challenges. I understand the importance of patience, flexibility, and creating a positive learning environment that fosters their unique abilities. In my tutoring approach, I prioritize a comprehensive understanding of concepts and active participation from the student. During our sessions, we will focus on working through homework assignments together, supplemented by ample practice problems. Additionally, I will dedicate time to thoroughly explain the underlying concepts to ensure clarity and mastery. To begin, we will review the homework assignments, allowing the student to share their thought process and any specific questions or areas of confusion they may have encountered. Next, I will emphasize the importance of concept comprehension, breaking down the principles and theories related to the problems. After solidifying the conceptual understanding, we will move on to the practice phase, working through a variety of problems together. Throughout the tutoring session, I will encourage questions, provide constructive feedback, and create a safe and supportive learning environment.
