About Liam
My aim is to be a mentor and guide for you as you foray into filmmaking! I wish I'd had someone to explain the basics to me when I was starting out, so that's what I'd like to be for you. I have worked as an on-set mentor for BFI Academy students during a short film shoot, and I've hosted or assisted with dozens of workshops and practical courses. Why should you listen to what I have to say? I've actually made some films! My feature film 'A Night Like This' starring Alexander Lincoln, Jack Brett Anderson and David Bradley premiered at BFI Flare in March, and is being distributed for UK Cinemas in Autumn by Verve Pictures. The film was selected for Lovers Film Festival in Turin where it won the Audience Award, Outshine in Florida and Frameline in San Francisco, and will screen at OutSouth in North Carolina and FilmOut San Diego in the next few months. Before my feature I wrote and/or directed a handful of short films of different genres, including a World War Two short, a zombie drama, a workplace documentary and a sci-fi short. I have worked on a dozen or so more as producer, 1st AD, production manager, sound recordist and editor. I have also worked in the TV industry as an AD runner on shows for Disney+, BBC and Channel 4 in various capacities.

Hello! I'm Liam, a director and writer of film with experience of feature film, short film, documentary and television. I have teaching experience delivering guest lectures at universities, speaking as an industry professional for BFI Academies, holding workshops for young people aged between 12 and 25 at a film charity in Southampton and more. I have a First Class degree in Film and Television and an MA with Distinction in Film Production from Solent University Southampton. What do you want to learn? I will base the lessons around what you want to focus on, whether that's how to write a film, feedback on an existing script, the steps of producing a film, how to direct or work with actors or even an introduction to video editing. Or alternatively we can cover more academic/theoretical topics, such as essay writing, written assessments or film research. My tutoring would suit beginners or early stage filmmakers, or film students at college or university. Lessons would typically be an hour, and would be flexible around your schedule.
