About Karen
Competitive play occupied 9 years of my life before I shifted to full-time instruction. Truthfully, the transition from state-level junior coaching awards to private tutoring required a sharper edge than I originally anticipated. My 7 years of coaching experience allow me to emphasize tactical patterns, positional understanding, and attacking play for all my students.
I prioritize king safety and defensive technique while teaching you to recognize complex piece coordination and opening principles. Developing a competitive mindset remains the priority for the players I guide toward tournament readiness.

How do you handle a board when the clock starts ticking down? Diagnostics define my approach because I start with a rating assessment to identify where your board vision fails.
My FIDE Instructor certification ensures that we address pattern recognition gaps before moving into advanced strategy. Since 10 years of study taught me that pacing matters, I adjust the complexity to match your current skill level exactly. We drill specific positions until the mechanics become intuitive and the board reveals itself.
