About Rick
I am a composer and drummer recently graduated with honors from New York University. I have just been admitted to study at USC Thornton for my master's-the top school in the world for film composition. My focus as a composer lies in the world sync licensing and music libraries. To date so far, I have written over 50 tracks for various music libraries. Additionally, during my undergrad, I scored several NYU Tisch student films and documentaries. I tutored for music theory throughout college and also had the opportunity to coach middle schoolers percussion.
I'm tutoring and giving lessons because my own career has been benefitted by great teachers over the years. I'm looking forward to meeting you!

My approach to teaching music theory and composition is dependent on you and your goals. I'm a firm believer in practicality within music.
COMPOSITION
With each lesson, you would prepare a sample of your writing to be critiqued. Generally, we will review harmony, counterpoint, and orchestration. Additionally, if you have an interest in film scoring, we would focus on spotting, midi mockups, and score prep. The sky is the limit here. I have a large library of clips without music for you to score. I believe the more you write the better you get. The more your work is reviewed your composing abilities will improve exponentially.
MUSIC THEORY & MUSIC HISTORY
Like my composing and film scoring tutoring, my approach depends on your needs and goals. If you're in high school you might be preparing for the AP Music Theory Exam (a test I received a 5 on) we can focus on getting you prepped and passed. If you are an undergraduate music major, the theory, ear training, and music history classes can be challenging but I know that having a tutor outside of class can ease the stress of part-writing drills, aural skills, and memorizing countless classical works that seem indiscriminate of one another.

Details
I understand that occasionally things happen and you won't be able to come to a lesson. As long as you let me know 24 hours in advance there is no cancellation fee. However, because I value my time, if you do decide to cancel on the day of your lesson, the fee is half of what you would have paid for the lesson.
