About Joshua
I’ve always had a natural ability to see things from a different perspective, and I believe this is what has made me strong in mathematics. I genuinely enjoy the subject and value the opportunity to discuss and explore it with others.
My academic journey hasn’t been straightforward, which allows me to relate to students who may be struggling or lacking confidence. I went from achieving two Cs and a B in my mocks to securing a place at the London School of Economics. Earlier on, I moved from bottom set in Year 8 to the top set the following year. These experiences taught me that success in mathematics is not solely about natural talent alone, but about using the right techniques and truly understanding the material.
I’ve seen first-hand that traditional teaching methods don’t work for everyone. During my A-levels, there were gaps in how parts of the syllabus were covered, which meant I had to take ownership of my learning and develop effective strategies myself. Once I discovered how to maximise my ability, my performance improved significantly.
Because of this, I aim to provide the support that many students don’t always receive in the classroom. If you feel you need clearer explanations, better strategies, or more personalised guidance, I’m here to help you build confidence and achieve your full potential.

As an applied mathematician, my teaching approach focuses on building a deep understanding of concepts by exploring their meaning and real-world context. I believe students learn best when they can see how topics are applied, so I incorporate applied-style exam questions into lessons, an area that is often overlooked in traditional classroom teaching.
Teaching Techniques:
I use a structured yet flexible approach tailored to each student’s needs. This includes:
Breaking down complex ideas into simple, understandable steps
Practising exam-style and applied questions to build confidence
Sharing tips and memory techniques to help retain key methods
Encouraging active problem-solving rather than passive learning
I also support students outside of lessons by marking work they submit and giving detailed feedback. This helps identify strengths and pinpoint areas that need improvement.
Lessons will be 30-60 minutes.
