About Louis

I relish learning and solving problems, and it is the best feeling when you see the lights go on behind somebody’s eyes, when the pin drops and they gain understanding! I have a natural sense for seeing where someone’s knowledge is faltering, and for providing the right queues to provide an intuitive understanding.

I have been providing online and in person tuition in GCSE and A-Level Accounting, Maths and Economics for the past 2 years. In this time I have consistently improved the grades of my students - my best ever went from a C predicted and went on to achieve an A* in their accounting A-level. In total I have tutored 10 different students and so have a good sense of what types of learners different people are.

Whilst at 6th form I was the Mathematics Subject Leader at Newstead Wood School, this involved both tutoring younger students personally and organising a regular tutoring scheme to link older students with younger ones requiring extra support. Whilst studying for my degree I have become the first person who my friends and course-mates come to for help with subjects like economics, finance, business or non-degree level mathematics.

About the lesson

My sessions aim to not only give a good understanding of individual topics but to show how they fit into the subject more generally. My style is very visual, I find that a good diagram or picture can often help students get over a misunderstanding. I am very good at knowing whether someone really has an intuitive understanding of something or not.

I am a fan of setting work as it gives me a good indication of how students progress. Most exam boards have very well defined specifications, we have a list of the concepts you will need to know and so have no excuse for not getting the student ready!

Different learners will learn in different ways and so it is necessary to tailor sessions for the given student, however my sessions broadly go like this:

1) Discuss any work set previously (working through any problems together).

2) Teaching of new material / reinforcing any old material the student requests or was weak on before.

3) Review of the session, providing context of how the material fits into the subject.

4) Setting further work for student to complete, this is particularly good practise in Maths and Accounting as the absolute only way to do extremely well is to do as many practice questions as you can!

Superprof provides excellent software which will allow me to visualise subjects for you, drawing graphs and equations to aide your understanding and providing any other materials as files through the software.
