About Stephan

I am a very passionate and friendly person. I deeply enjoy maths; not only do I study it as a degree, but I also spend a fair amount of my spare time solving maths problems for leisure. Besides that, I like to go to the gym, hang out, and go on adventures with my friends. This is why I like tutoring so much—it combines two of the things I like most into one. I get to share my passion for maths with others and help them see the beauty in one of the most interesting topics in the world. For my tutoring in the Intro to Programming class at university, my student-given performance review was on average 90/100. I know not everyone is as passionate as I am, so I try to get along with my students so they feel as if they are just hanging around with a friend doing a important yet enjoyable puzzles done instead of "boring" homework time.

About the lesson

I am a big believer that if you cannot explain a topic to your grandma, you do not know it well enough. A typical lesson will involve a student sending me the questions and topics they intend to work on. I then personally prepare the 1-hour lesson to best suit the student. During the lesson, I give a high-level overview of the topic and test the student to ensure they have a strong conceptual understanding of the idea. After showing them the problem-solving techniques, we work through problems together. When they are working through problems, I ensure I give them enough help so that they are able to solve the problem, but not too much; I make sure they solve it themselves. My qualifications as a tutor are that I tutored an introductory programming course at Monash University for 2 years. In addition, I have 2 years of previous experience teaching Methods and Specialist Maths. I have also achieved strong academic scores at university, with distinctions and high distinctions in my maths units. I am qualified to teach all levels and ages except for Further Maths in Year 11 and 12.
