About Philippe
Hi! I’m Philippe, an educator and experienced tutor with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Florida State University. I currently teach middle school math and science and specialize in helping students in grades 3–8 build stronger math skills and confidence.
My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and easy to understand. Rather than simply giving students answers, I break concepts into manageable steps and help students understand why the math works so they can eventually solve problems independently.
I understand that every student learns differently, so I adapt my teaching approach to the individual student. Whether your child needs to catch up, strengthen foundational skills, prepare for a test, or get ahead, my goal is to make math feel less intimidating and much more manageable.

My Teaching Approach
I believe students learn math best when they understand why something works instead of simply memorizing steps. My teaching style is patient, encouraging, interactive, and adapted to each student's learning level.
My Teaching Method & Techniques
I start by identifying what the student already understands and where the confusion begins. Instead of immediately giving answers, I break difficult concepts into smaller, manageable steps and use examples that connect math to situations students recognize.
I use an “I Do, We Do, You Do” approach:
I Do: I demonstrate the concept clearly and explain my thinking step-by-step.
We Do: The student and I solve problems together while I ask questions and guide their thinking.
You Do: The student solves problems independently while I observe, correct misconceptions, and provide feedback.
I also use visuals, number lines, real-world examples, mental-math strategies, games, practice problems, and repetition when appropriate. Most importantly, I encourage students to explain how they got their answer, because being able to explain the process shows true understanding.
What a Typical Lesson Looks Like
A typical session begins with a short warm-up to review previous skills and identify areas that may need reinforcement. We then introduce or review the day's main concept using clear examples and guided instruction.
After I model the skill, we work through several problems together. As the student's confidence increases, I gradually reduce my assistance and allow them to work independently.
We finish with a short review or “exit question” so I can determine whether the student has truly mastered the concept and what we should focus on during our next session.
When appropriate, I can also help students prepare for quizzes, tests, homework, missing assignments, and upcoming units.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
As both an educator and tutor, I understand that two students can be in the same grade and need completely different explanations.
My goal isn't simply to help a student finish tonight's homework. I want them to develop the foundational skills and confidence that make future math easier.
I focus on finding the exact point where a student became confused and rebuilding from there. I create a comfortable environment where students aren't afraid to make mistakes, ask questions, or tell me when something doesn't make sense.
I can also adjust the difficulty of a lesson in real time. If a student is struggling, we'll slow down and rebuild the foundation. If they're mastering the material quickly, I'll challenge them with higher-level problems.
Who My Lessons Are For
I provide math tutoring for students in 3rd through 8th grade, including students who:
Are struggling with their current math class
Need to strengthen foundational skills
Want extra practice or enrichment
Need homework or test-preparation support
Have fallen behind and need help catching up
Want to enter the next grade feeling more confident
Topics can include multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, proportions, integers, expressions, equations, geometry, word problems, order of operations, pre-algebra, and other grade-level math skills.
My overall goal is simple: help students understand math, become more confident solving problems independently, and realize that they are capable of improving with the right instruction and practice
