About Maxwell
I am a guitar teacher with 8 years of experience teaching both in-person and online. I hold a Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance, specializing in Contemporary Styles. My teaching philosophy focuses on compositional techniques, arranging for guitar, and original music creation, helping students develop their unique musical voice. I adapt each lesson to fit individual goals, whether you’re a beginner learning the basics or an advanced player tackling complex pieces. We explore harmonic concepts, melodic invention, and counterpoint to deepen your understanding and creativity. I also guide students in recording basic demos to capture and share their ideas. I have worked with students ranging from beginners to professionals and expert-level aspiring composers. Music is a journey, and I’m here to support you every step of the way. My teaching approach focuses on developing your ear to unlock deeper musical understanding. I believe that strong aural skills are essential for every guitarist, whether you're playing around the campfire or diving into blues solos. We work on ear training through activities like transcribing songs, melodic dictation, and interval recognition.
I provide clear, step-by-step exercises designed to improve your ability to hear and identify melodies, rhythms, and harmonies. This practical approach helps you connect what you hear with what you play on the guitar. You’ll gain confidence in picking out tunes by ear and improvising with greater freedom.
I’m especially skilled at working with The Campfire Strummer and The Blues Seeker—players who want to develop a natural and intuitive connection with their music. Lessons are tailored to your pace, with consistent support and feedback to help you progress. Together, we build a foundation that strengthens your overall musicianship.
