About Nathaniel

I am an Engineer by education with a First Class MEng in Aerospace Engineering. I recently returned from travelling in Australia.

I started teaching in High School when I started helping coach tennis at my local club. Since then, I have expanded to teaching Maths, Physics and Technology as a private tutor. I teach these as they are not only what I am skilled at, but what I enjoy learning about myself.

I spent one year of my degree abroad in the USA. I had a unique insight into a different teaching methodology which I bring into my own to provide the best possible tutoring.

About the lesson

As an engineer, I specialised in computer science. As such, I aim to teach anyone with an interest in not only Maths and Physics, but also ICT. This could be anything from Spreadsheets to Finite Element Analysis. I teach any skill level, from KS2 (Primary School), through KS3, KS4 (GCSE), KS5 (A-Level) and up to Degree level.

As a tutor, I tailor my teaching method to best suit you. For this, I will use the first lesson to build a rapport, and establish how best you learn and what you seek to get out of our lessons. I prefer to use a good sense of humour to create a casual atmosphere as I find this fosters an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and engage better. It also alleviates stress, which is vital for good learning.

Recently, I have started tutoring online due to the Covid restrictions.

Although I customise any lesson I give to better suit the needs of the student, I will follow a general lesson plan. To begin, I will quickly discuss how comfortable the student is with the last lesson's content, and review any necessary points. Then, I will provide the key points of today's topic. From there I will start from the knowledge you already have to build up to the key learning points. This way, a student not only knows key points (an equation in Physics, for example) but where it comes from, why it is relevant, and gains insight into when and where it can be used. It also improves self-confidence, as the student hasn't just memorised a meaningless bit of information, but can feel they fully understand it. To end the lesson I will provide some example problems and assist the student in working through them. It is here I will also include any exam relevant advice and techniques. I will close up by chatting about how the student feels with today's lesson and how comfortable they are with understanding the key points.
