About Ellie

I am an artist and educator with a deep passion for creativity, visual communication, and the artistic process. I believe art is not just about producing outcomes, but about exploration, experimentation, and discovering your own way of seeing and making. My goal as a teacher is to help students uncover their unique visual language and personal handwriting, building confidence in both their ideas and technical skills. I’m passionate about sharing my knowledge and love for creative thinking - from drawing and mixed media to digital design using Adobe Photoshop. I encourage students to explore a wide range of materials, techniques, and concepts so they can find what truly inspires them. A big part of my teaching is focused on portfolio preparation for Art Foundation and Degree-level study. I guide students through the process of developing a professional, well-curated body of work that reflects their individuality, creative process, and critical thinking. I also love showing examples of my own work and past student portfolios to help demystify what art schools are looking for and to spark ideas for new directions. Teaching, for me, is about more than developing skills - it’s about nurturing curiosity, confidence, and creative independence. I find great joy in seeing students grow, take risks, and achieve success on their path towards art school and beyond.

About the lesson

A passionate and dedicated Art & Design teacher committed to nurturing creativity, technical skill, and individual artistic voice in every student. With a deep understanding of the creative industries and art school pathways, I guide students through the process of developing strong, conceptually rich portfolios that meet the expectations of Foundation and BA-level art and design courses. My teaching combines traditional and contemporary approaches - from drawing, painting, printmaking, and mixed media to digital design, fashion illustration, and textile experimentation. I encourage critical thinking, risk-taking, and reflective practice so that students can articulate their creative intentions and contextual understanding confidently in interviews and portfolio reviews. Having supported numerous students in gaining places at prestigious Art Foundation and Degree courses (including Fine Art, Graphic Design, Textiles, and Fashion Design), I pride myself on creating a studio culture that mirrors the energy and independence of higher education. Teaching Philosophy: I’m passionate about helping students discover their own unique visual language and creative handwriting - the personal style that makes their work truly theirs. I believe in meeting expectations in inventive and meaningful ways, encouraging students to interpret briefs with individuality and imagination. I love sharing ideas and creative strategies, sparking inspiration and confidence in others as they develop their artistic voice. Areas of Expertise: Portfolio preparation for Art Foundation and Art School applications Specialist knowledge across Fine Art, Graphics, Textiles, and Fashion pathways One-to-one mentorship and interview preparation Sketchbook development, annotation, and contextual research Experimental and cross-disciplinary approaches to visual communication Understanding of exam board assessment criteria (AQA, Edexcel, OCR, etc.) Student Outcomes: My students consistently achieve high grades and progress to leading Art Foundation and Degree programmes, including Central Saint Martins, Kingston, Loughborough, London College of Fashion, and Manchester School of Art.
