About Ben
I have a First Class Degree in Biology and have taught all three sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) to all levels at KS3 and KS4 (GCSE) level. I’ve worked in education for 6 years - 3 years as a Teaching Assistant and 3 years as a qualified secondary school science teacher. I have lots of experience helping students of all abilities build confidence and improve their grades in science.

My lessons follow research-backed teaching methods to maximise learning and long-term memory. Each session begins with a short retrieval quiz on previous content to keep knowledge fresh and prevent forgetting. I also interleave related topics throughout the lesson so students strengthen older knowledge while learning something new, helping them understand how ideas across the sciences connect. Students are actively involved throughout the lesson, answering questions verbally or typed to promote engagement, active recall, and stronger retention. I break down complex ideas into simple, clear explanations, then check understanding to identify and correct misconceptions early. Once the student has grasped the concept, they move on to independent practice using exam-style questions to apply their new learning confidently, with constant feedback to ensure mistakes are corrected early. This approach ensures students not only learn the content but also retain it, understand it deeply, and can confidently apply it in assessments and exams.
