About April

I have just graduated from the Royal Academy of Music with an MA in Musical Theatre. Previous to this, I read Education, English, Drama and the Arts at the University of Cambridge graduating with a First Class Honours. I have over 6 years private vocal tuition experience and have personally trained with some of the UK’s best vocal teachers and musical directors. I have experience teaching children as young as 4 all the way through to adults over 25 and am adept and tailoring my lessons to the requirements of the individual. I have been trained in both the Bel Canto and Estill vocal techniques, beginning my career as a young chorister and then as a classical soprano. I then pivoted into musical theatre.

About the lesson

As a recent graduate of the Royal Academy of Music and the University of Cambridge where I studied Education, English, Drama and the Arts I am immensely passionate about the power of music and creative storytelling. For me, singing is incredibly personal and it can feel daunting to begin lessons. Most importantly, I try to build confidence and musicality in my students, a passion and genuine love for singing and music-making. As a passionate educator and musician myself, I pride myself on really listening to my students and tailoring each lesson to the individual student. Whether preparing for examination, applying to drama school, or just singing for fun-my lessons are structured to develop the core foundations of technique in singing alongside exploring musicality and detail. Lessons generally begin with a warmup and focused conversation regarding the sensations and feedback from singing- having experience with both the Bel Canto and Estill approaches to voice training, I find I am able to combine these to create a cohesive and clear pedagogy. Then we would move onto singing! The repertoire selected will be from personal suggestions (what the student likes singing) as well as what I think would suit their present ability and what can be introduced as a challenge. Lessons between 30 minutes to 1hr are most suitable.
