About Martha
Hi! My name is Martha and I am a Master's student in Politics and International Studies at the University of Cambridge. I graduated from the University of Manchester last year where I received a First in History and Portuguese. After living in Brazil for a year and now being able to fluently speak, read, and write, I am excited to help other Brits with a love of Brazil to be able to immerse themselves more into the culture by learning the local language. Whatever you need help with, whether that be speaking, reading, or translation, we'll spend lots of time talking and listening to Brazilian news (and even funny memes/videos) to get you accustomed to the different accents and sounds. I know they can sound daunting especially if you're coming from having learnt Spanish and maybe were expecting Portuguese to be more similar than it is! This is to prepare you for Portuguese in the real world, as especially in Brazil lots of slang use can make you feel thrown in the deep-end if you have come from somewhere like duolingo or purely grammar lessons!
