  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I began tutoring six years ago. Coming from a cultural background where immersion in education is often hindered by societal and financial barriers, I realized the transformative power of learning. This inspired me to become a tutor and help students overcome these challenges to unlock their potential.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I specialize in teaching law, with a strong focus on areas like Intellectual Property (IP) and Data Protection. These fields are particularly exciting to me because they are at the forefront of innovation and technology, requiring a deep understanding of both legal theory and its practical applications. Having achieved a First Class LLB degree, I possess a comprehensive understanding of all areas of law, but IP and Data Protection are my personal favorites due to their dynamic and evolving nature.

I enjoy delving into theoretical frameworks, such as the balance between individual rights and societal interests in Data Protection or the intersection of creativity and legal protections in IP. These topics allow for thought-provoking discussions and help students appreciate the broader impact of the law. While I love exploring theory, I also guide students in applying these concepts to real-world scenarios, such as analyzing GDPR compliance or protecting intellectual assets. My aim is to make every lesson both intellectually enriching and practically relevant.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, I've been inspired by educators who focus on making education accessible and empowering. One of my university professors, Pete, demonstrated how complex subjects can be made engaging and accessible, which has strongly influenced my teaching style.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor needs empathy, patience, and adaptability. Understanding that cultural and financial challenges often shape a student's experience is crucial. A tutor should communicate effectively, build confidence, and tailor lessons to meet individual needs, fostering an environment where students feel supported.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One of my most memorable experiences was helping a student complete their dissertation in just four hours. They were struggling with structure and clarity, so I guided them through step-by-step analysis and problem-solving. They went on to achieve a first-class grade, which reinforced the impact of personalized teaching.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still face in your subject?

Cultural expectations often downplay the value of deep immersion in education, which was a challenge I had to navigate early on. Balancing this with the demands of academic life taught me resilience and adaptability, which I now pass on to my students.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion lies in making education accessible and empowering students to overcome societal barriers. Teaching allows me to share my love for law while supporting students in achieving their goals. Beyond teaching, I'm passionate about creating solutions, like my AI startup, to simplify complex processes and make knowledge more widely available.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

I bring six years of experience, a deep understanding of the challenges students face, and a tailored approach to teaching. By creating a supportive and engaging learning environment, I empower students to overcome obstacles and achieve success, which truly makes me a Superprof.
