About Alyssa
Hi! My name is Alyssa Herro and I was a First Grade teacher for the last 11 years. I have decided to leave the classroom to spend more time with my own children. I did not want to leave the idea of teaching altogether. I have always enjoyed working with students one on one or in small groups. I believe this is so beneficial for a student to stay engaged and gain confidence and skills that will help set a foundation for their education. My hope is to be able to help my students build their knowledge in basic concepts and skills in the younger grades to help them flourish and be ready to tackle concepts in the classroom.

My teaching method is to take time and break things down. Have fun and stay engaged in learning. Visual learning in the younger grades is extremely beneficial.
A typical lesson would discuss the objective so the student is aware of what they are going to be learning that day. Using techniques and hands-on activities to keep the student engaged in learning. Building a mastery of basic skills in both math and phonics will provide the student with the foundational skills to further their understanding.
I will provide modeling, followed by ways to discuss thinking together, ending with the student using those problem-solving skills to independently work our problems/concepts.
My lessons will be designed for the lower elementary level in both reading and math and focusing on foundational skills.
