About Doroti

I have always enjoyed explaining concepts to people. Many of my friends and classmates came to me when they needed help in understanding certain biological processes or chemistry mechanisms. My tutoring experience began when I joined the Chemistry mentoring program at my sixth form in Year 12, where I tutored younger students in Chemistry and helped them get a better understanding in the subject. I also have a younger brother who I helped in preparing for his 11+ exams.
I achieved 9A*'s and 2A's in GCSE (including A*'s in Maths, Sciences and an A in Additional Maths) and an A*A*A Biology, Chemistry and Maths A level respectively.
As I have recently finished my A levels, I am still very familiar with the content and can pass on different exam techniques which helped me to achieve my grades.
Through preparing myself for medical school, I have been able to develop key skills, such as patience and empathy, which will allow me to work at a pace the is best for my tutee as well as identify and work on their weaknesses to help them in making as much progress as possible in their subject.

About the lesson

I am a enthusiastic and approachable second-year undergraduate medical student at UCL, and I can offer tutoring lessons for Maths up to GCSE level, as well as Biology and Chemistry for A-level students.
I like to start off my lessons establishing what my tutee's strengths and weaknesses are in the certain topic we are covering. This helps me to adapt my teaching style to each of my students so they are being taught in a way that is most convenient and effective for them. We can then work on trying to develop the areas they are struggling in by initially discussing the theory behind the topic, then moving on to solving questions. In order to solve a problem, I like to ask questions from my tutees, rather than spoon-feeding the answers to them, as this will enable them to think deeply into the question and allows them to have a sense of achievement that they have managed to solve a problem themselves. I also encourage tutees to ask me questions during a session as this helps to identify what they understand and what they need extra help on.
