About Harper
I trained in flamenco guitar and cante singing in Spain for years before building a teaching career around that authentic tradition, and across fifteen years of teaching I have guided approximately three hundred eighty students. My background gives me genuine, lived insight into flamenco singing's emotional depth and cultural richness, insight that purely classically trained voice teachers simply cannot offer their students. I work particularly well with students genuinely drawn to Spanish and flamenco culture, not just vocal technique in isolation from its rich emotional and cultural roots. My teaching style is expressive and deeply rooted in tradition, though I remain genuinely warm and patient with students working hard to access flamenco's genuinely raw emotional delivery. I have guided numerous students toward real competency in authentic flamenco singing, watching many develop genuine passion for the tradition alongside real vocal skill. Students consistently tell me they appreciate learning something authentic and culturally rich, rather than a diluted, generic version of vocal technique. I take genuine pride in helping students connect with flamenco's genuine emotional depth, not just its technical demands alone. My approach treats singing as inseparable from the culture and tradition it comes from. After fifteen years, I remain genuinely passionate about sharing authentic flamenco tradition.

My training in flamenco in Spain included cante, traditional flamenco singing, and that tradition shapes an entirely different, deeply expressive approach to teaching singing today. Every lesson begins with breath and grounding, since flamenco singing demands genuine emotional depth that simply cannot emerge from a tense, disconnected body. I teach through real cante styles from early on, not simplified exercises alone, since authentic material carries the emotional weight that makes flamenco singing genuinely powerful and moving. Vocal technique is built carefully around flamenco's distinctive ornamentation and raw, emotional delivery, quite different from classical training many students may have encountered previously elsewhere. Rhythm and compás awareness receive constant, dedicated attention, since flamenco singing exists in genuine dialogue with guitar and rhythm, never as an isolated, independent melody alone. I explain the cultural and historical context behind cante constantly, since understanding flamenco's roots genuinely deepens a student's emotional connection to what they're actually singing. Listening to real flamenco recordings forms a core part of every lesson, training the ear to recognise authentic phrasing and emotional delivery beyond written notation alone. I encourage genuine emotional expression over polished perfection, since flamenco singing values raw authenticity far more than technically flawless but emotionally empty delivery. Every lesson stays deeply rooted in authentic tradition and genuine feeling.
