About Alla

Since a young age I have had an affinity for language learning and find great passion in being able to relay my language learning experiences and skills to others. In my 3 years of teaching experience I have worked with children, teens and adults, teaching Russian, German, French and Chinese. Languages have always come naturally to me ever since childhood as I grew up speaking two mother tongues, English and Russian. I have always spotted links and patterns between various languages and this has helped me to learn 6 languages independently. I will get you to think in your target language without translating in your head and hesitating every time you want to speak! It will become second nature to you!

About the lesson

I am a fan of interactive lessons which are based on relevant content rather than textbook regurgitation. For languages it is especially efficient to learn through comprehensible input and not through rote learning or repetition. That is why I employ various different techniques such as dictations, visual learning and contextual learning. I have successfully taken many language exams with the standard exam boards and therefore I am well-versed in the methods and techniques needed. Although alongside learning exam techniques it will be of high value to the student to also develop their own natural understanding of the language so that they can employ it with natural fluency during the exam. My approach to language teaching is flexible and open-minded. My own personal experience of learning languages at school was terrible and convinced me that outdated teaching methods are the root cause of the UK's monolingualism. I do not believe that the UK is inherently monolingual and I am on a mission to change this. My lessons target the commonly weak faculties of foreign language; Speaking and Listening. I make content relevant and memorable to the student and enable comprehensive input to get your child speaking and listening with confidence. As Russian is particularly difficult in terms of pronunciation I place extra emphasis on honing this ability through targeted exercises such as shadowing, using tongue twisters and rhyming.

What’s great about Alla’s lessons is the unconventional approach to language learning. I’ve had issues with traditional teaching styles in schools and Alla’s techniques really helped me to take a new perspective when acquiring a new language!

Where do start!? Alla is so helpful when it comes to details that are usually disregarded by standard tutoring programmes, such as accent and intonation. I’ve never known of the contextual acquisition technique and it’s really helped my daughter with her GCSE German predicted grade. She’s not a natural linguist but with Alla’s help we boosted it from a C to an A! Highly recommended!
