About Cuisle

I wasn’t raised speaking Irish, and for many years, I struggled to truly understand the language. Like many others, I spent countless hours memorizing paragraphs and trying to learn off information for exams, but it never felt natural. I found myself disconnected from the language, and my grades reflected that. It wasn’t until I made a fundamental shift in my approach that everything began to change. Instead of focusing on memorization, I decided to learn Irish the way it was meant to be learned — by speaking it and truly understanding it. I immersed myself in conversation, practiced daily, and focused on comprehending the language in real-life contexts, rather than just reciting what I had been taught. This shift in mindset was a game-changer. Not only did my grades improve dramatically, but I began to connect with the language in a way I never thought possible. It became more than just something to study for exams; it became a living, breathing part of my life. I could feel the connection to my culture and heritage grow stronger, and I felt empowered to use the language in my daily life. That’s the approach I now bring to my teaching. I want to help others experience the same transformation I did — from feeling disconnected and frustrated with Irish to developing a deep understanding and love for the language. Learning Irish doesn’t have to be about memorization or mindless repetition. It’s about understanding, connecting, and living the language. If I can do it, so can you. About the lesson

How I Teach Irish: Focus on Understanding and Critical Thinking In my Irish lessons, I prioritize understanding the language deeply. I believe fluency comes from developing a strong comprehension foundation, which empowers students to think critically and engage with Irish in a meaningful way. While spoken Irish is a key part of my lessons, my main focus is on building the skills to understand, analyze, and apply the language effectively. Methodology: I aim to help students understand Irish through engaging with texts, producing opinion pieces, and preparing for CBAs and the Junior Cert exam. This approach strengthens both written and spoken Irish, making students confident in a variety of contexts, whether for exams or everyday conversations. Lesson Length: Each lesson typically lasts 1 hour, though I can adjust the duration to fit your needs. Qualifications & Experience: I attend an all-Irish Gaelscoil and have extensive knowledge of the Junior Cert coursework, making me well-equipped to guide students through exam preparation and language learning. Target Audience: My lessons are designed for Junior Cert students, those preparing for the Junior Cert next year, and students in Transition Year who wish to improve their Irish. I also offer lessons for anyone interested in learning Irish as a pastime, focusing on both practical spoken Irish and a deeper understanding of the language.
