About Sophia
I was born in Greece and am a fluent native Greek speaker. I have successfully completed all levels of the Ellinomatheia language certification (A1 through C2), demonstrating fluent proficiency. I have been an assistant Greek teacher at St. Katherine’s Greek School in Falls Church, VA, and have over five years of experience in private Greek tutoring. I’m deeply passionate about the Greek language and culture, and I aim to inspire that same enthusiasm in my students. Whether you're coming from a non-Greek-speaking background or are a younger learner, my goal is to make the language accessible, engaging, and meaningful.

Each lesson begins with a conversational warm-up conducted entirely in Greek, helping students activate their speaking skills and build confidence. We then move into a guided reading exercise, typically drawn from texts inspired by Greek culture and history. As we read, students translate each line from Greek into English to deepen their comprehension and vocabulary.
Next, we focus on grammar—either reviewing topics from previous lessons or introducing new concepts tailored to the student’s level and goals. We conclude the session with a short Greek video, often related to music or cultural topics, to reinforce listening skills and offer insight into modern Greek life.
