About Serena

I am a flute tutor with 13 years of experience and have taught 150–200 students of all ages. My teaching journey includes high school musicians, college students, and older adults who want to enjoy music at their own pace. My passion for teaching grows every time I see a student become more confident. One milestone in my career was helping students participate in competitions and achieve strong scores. Many started with little experience but developed impressive skills through dedication.

Their success encouraged me to keep improving my teaching methods. I focus on creating lessons that are simple, warm, and easy to follow. I help students understand tone, breath control, rhythm, and expression one step at a time. My goal is to make learning enjoyable so students feel excited to practice and grow. Teaching elderly students has also been meaningful, as many are fulfilling lifelong goals. Their commitment inspires me to continue sharing the beauty of music with learners of all ages.

About the lesson

My flute teaching methodology is shaped by real-life examples, motivation, problem-solving, integrity, and flexibility. I use everyday experiences to explain musical concepts. For example, I teach breath control by comparing it to slow, steady breathing during relaxation. I teach rhythm using simple patterns from speech or movement. These examples help students connect naturally with music. Motivation is at the heart of every session. I encourage students to focus on progress rather than perfection. We set small goals and celebrate achievements regularly.

A motivated student learns more effectively and enjoys the journey. Problem-solving helps students become independent players. When something sounds unclear or difficult, we identify the issue and explore simple solutions. This way, students learn to understand their playing and improve with confidence. Integrity is important in my teaching. I am honest but friendly with my feedback. I help students understand what to improve while also recognising their strengths. I believe trust is essential for good learning. Flexibility lets me design lessons that match each student’s needs. Fast or slow pace, visual or hands-on learning—every student receives personalised guidance. I also teach related subjects like theory, rhythm, and performance skills. My aim is to help students grow steadily and enjoy playing the flute.
