About Katelyn

Hi! My name is Katelyn Au and I am a first-year college student at the University of California San Diego. I currently reside in La Jolla, but I was born and raised in Fremont, California, which is located in the Bay Area. I attended Irvington High School, where I was an avid player in the school marching band and I tutor Flute and English.

I have been tutoring flute for over 4 years now and I love watching my students learn and grow as they explore their talents and passions through this wonderful musical instrument. I hope to provide them with tips and skills to further their flute playing abilities, as well as encourage them to participate and join local musical organizations. Along with flute technique, I also want to expand student's knowledge of muscial theory, to prepare them for success if they choose to continue music to the highest level.

Besides the flute, I offer tutoring sessions in English to students up to the middle school level, and I have been tutoring English sicne 2016. My passion for English stems from my love of reading and through English tutoring I hope to inspire and provide guidance for students as they go through their school's English cirriculum. I can provide help with reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, and spelling and I want to ultimately boost student's confidence in their ability to read and answer the correct answers.

About the lesson

I've been studying the flute for almost 10 years and I am very passionate about helping others achieve their musical goals.

Through this passion, I have been able to tutor a wide range of students for over 4 years.

Currently, I am open to tutoring students of all level, with a preference to intermediate and advanced students. I will help students improve and hone their flute and musical theory skills by providing feedback and critiques every week, along with additional suggestions and tips on how to improve playing. I hope to facilitate open communication with parents of the students in order to provide the best experience for the student.

My musical accolades include being the first chair of the Fremont Youth Symphony Orchestra since 2016 and a section leader for marching band since 2019. I boast a wide range of credits including being selected for a spot in the San Jose State Wind Symphony in high school and having a role in the district honor band. I have countless experiences in school band and orchestra, directing small ensembles of musicians and playing in the pit orchestra for school musicals, working closely with professional musicians in cultivating lesson plans and music scores for events.

In addition, I also have experience tutoring students of all ages and levels. I began tutoring flute to my fellow students and gave them tips to improve their playing and I have also tutored elementary students, from beginner to advance levels. I also have extensive practice working with children, since I worked as a teacher's assistant at a preschool from 2021-2022.
