About Minty

I have recently graduated from London College of Fashion Cordwainers, and would like to help students who are either trying to get into University, or give current University goers help along with their projects, or just people who are interested in making a portfolio for footwear design. I have knowlege in all areas of footwear construction and understand what it takes to create a beautiful and well crafted portfolio. Footwear design is a niche and specific subject to learn, which is often not taught as much as fashion or art and design before university, and is important to learn the basics if this is the field you would like to go into.

About the lesson

I like to teach in a way that makes students excited about their own ideas and work, in a calm welcoming atmosphere. I want my students to feel like we are a team when working together, like a friend, and push them to get the result they are after.

My teaching methods start with understanding who the student is, and how they like to work. It's very important to start with this to ensure that they get the help they need as best as they can. This can help to break down bad habbits and offer solutions in areas they struggle in, in a very friendly and helpfull way, and can help to push them forward in areas they are good at.

Teaching menthodolgies for projects:

- CONCEPT
Creating a good concept can be difficult, and there is very little help with this method of thinking. It is not something that is taught, it is something that you are either good at or bad at, it is your own idea. But with the right guidance you can come up with great concepts through bouncing ideas off of one another. This is something that I like to do with students as it engages the student and helps to spur your own ideas. When you have a great concept your project becomes so much more exciting and you will never get bored of it!

- RESEARCH
Research is a huge part of any project, it is the heart and soul of great design. I will help with creating a mindmap of subjects to research from the concept, and where to go to get great information, at the same time as pulling references from my head. This includes primary and secondary research.

- DEVELOPMENT OF IDEAS
Using your research, I will help you to break it down and hone in on specific areas to help inform design ideas. This includes creating a mood board, colour board, and materials board (which may change throughout the project).

- INITIAL THUMBNAILS DRAWINGS
These are your first initial drawings taken from the development of your research and concept. This can be totally random and un-professional as you need to get your first ideas out of your head. We will then chose the best drawings from this and develop it into more resolved larger drawings.

- FINAL DESIGNS + FINAL LINE-UP
Through the larger more resolved drawings we will pick which are the strongest in terms of design, and which can be improved on by going back to the intitial research and making the designs stronger. This will then be put into a collection of 6 shoes drawn perfectly with linedrawings.

* I will help teach students how to use photoshop and illustrator to make your final linedrawings come to life! Which is the most exciting part!

* Throughout these processes I will guide you in the layout of your work for a very professional looking protfolio!

If students want to learn the basics of the construction of a shoe I will also teach this at beginners level.
