About Joe

Hey there! It’s Joe V. 👋

I've been teaching professionally since 2015 and have been lucky to help people accomplish musical goals of all shapes and sizes from learning their favorite songs to writing their first album to making it into prestigious grant programs to performing their music on stages around the world.

Whether you're a beginner or advanced musician, I want to help you make the music you love. Fast!

Since I began teaching in 2015, I have:

🎵 Delivered thousands of lessons to music makers of all ages and levels all around the world (from Miami to Mumbai, LA to Oslo)

🎵 Helped celebrities and successful professionals to build a repertoire of songs (originals and covers) faster than they ever thought possible

🎵 Guided students who “couldn’t be taught” or “could barely play a note” to writing and strumming along to their first album’s worth of songs

🎵 Helped fellow professional musicians develop expertise in songwriting and expand on their previously untapped potential

Have you taken music lessons before?

I don't know about you, but I used to HATE taking music lessons as a kid. They were confusing, hard, strict, and ultimately discouraging.

I knew I loved music, but everything about it just seemed so impossible!

I just wanted to PLAY!

THE TRUTH: Learning an instrument, being creative, feeling fulfilled and confident while playing music you love...these things SHOULD NOT be hard or complicated, take forever, or result in hours of aimless practicing each week.

PLAYING is the most important part of learning music.

In fact, the learning is IN the playing!

And in lessons with me, you'll be playing one of your favorite songs from the very first lesson.

Outside of teaching, I’m a songwriter and recording artist in LA, have toured nationally and internationally, and hold a degree in Jazz Guitar Performance from The School of Jazz and Contemporary Music at The New School in NYC.

I’m also the co-founder and head teacher at Music Made Simple, an online music school offering highly personalized 1-on-1 lessons over Zoom to people across the globe.

NOTE: All lessons will be held online via Zoom.

🎵 I grew up studying saxophone, piano, and guitar

🎵 Between ages 7-18, I took hundreds of private lessons, played in prestigious regional and state-wide music programs, wrote and released my own music and performed around the state of Connecticut with my own band.

🎵 I attended The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in NYC when I was 18 and graduated in 2011 with a degree in guitar performance. I also studied classical composition and voice while there.

🎵 While studying in NYC, I was accepted to several prestigious music workshops including one at the Banff Centre in Banff Canada and Acoustic Music Seminar (hosted by the Savannah Music Festival).

🎵 I've toured nationally and internationally, performing at the Bern International Jazz Festival and the Savannah Music Festival.

🎵 I currently write, produce, and release my own music.

🎵 I have taught thousands of lessons to musicians of all ages and levels all over the world through my own company.

About the lesson

For each new student, their first lesson is what I like to call the Intro Jumpstart Session. This is a highly personalized introductory lesson that sets students up for success and lets them get to see how they like working with me!

In the Jumpstart Session, students:

🎵 Jump into learning to play one of their favorite songs

🎵 Receive a full creative assessment identifying their musical interests and goals, highlighting their creative strengths, and addressing any musical challenges they may have faced in the past

🎵 Develop step-by-step guide with me to accomplishing their creative goals using my Success Roadmap

🎵 Receive a customized creative challenge after the lesson to keep them moving toward their goals

At the time of writing this, I've worked with students ages 5 - 74 at all levels and interests.
