The key to my approach as a tutor is to bring the level of the mathematics down to a level that the student is comfortable with. This technique is applicable to almost any branch of mathematics. Whether it is introductory high school algebra to college level calculus.
A typical lesson plan would be to work an example problem for the student. Then let the student do problems on his/her own, with required coaching.

I have known David Shoup for approximately 12 years. I first met him when he was auditing a physics class that I was teaching at Lincoln Land Community College. He was auditing the class just for review. Since then, David and I have kept in touch due to our shared interests in science and mathematics. David has a Ph.D. in chemistry and is retired from doing research.
During his retirement, David has worked part-time at Lincoln Land Community College in the Learning Lab where he has tutored students one-on-one in math and science. David is a very pleasant person. He has a sincere interest in helping students and is very patient with students. He will go the extra mile to help students understand the material.View more recommendations
