I enjoy teaching others about Organic Chemistry. I especially enjoy the patterns in Organic Chemistry and how it can be used to make molecules that treat diseases. One of my other interests is understanding the types of misconceptions students have in the subject.

Organic Chemistry is a subject in which many topics later in the year build upon foundational concepts learned in the first few weeks. For example, if a student doesn't have a firm grasp of line notation and condensed formulas, it can be challenging for them to interpret organic structures. So, I would like to start by assessing where a student is in their knowledge of basic concepts.
In the first (free) lesson I would try to obtain some basic information from the student such as textbook being used, learning goals, course syllabus, and areas of struggle. From there we could work on a learning plan, and I could give some introductory questions to see where the student is currently at in their knowledge of Organic Chemistry concepts.
I like to work in an interactive and iterative way with students where I give them a question, see how they answer it, and then build on that knowledge and correct any misconception. Given that Organic Chemistry involves a lot of structure drawing, I think tutoring would work best in a face-to-face format but I might be convinced to tutor online if compelling reasons are offered.
An important thing to note about Organic Chemistry is that if you give yourself enough time and patience then you can learn it like any other skill.
I have the most experience teaching Organic Chemistry but am familiar with many topics in General Chemistry as well.
