About Steve
If you’ve ever opened Maya and felt completely overwhelmed, you’re not alone—and you’re in the right place.
With over a decade of college level experience teaching Maya to complete beginners, both online and in person, I’ve helped thousands of students go from zero experience to confidently creating their own 3D projects. I understand how intimidating this software can feel at first, which is exactly why I teach it the way I wish it had been taught to me: simplified, straightforward and logically, without a lot of unnecessary technical jargon. The freedom to create anything you can imagine is truly liberating and powerful! If you want to create your character, tell your story, realize your vision, I can show you the way!

My approach to teaching the basics of Maya is unique and structured for the 'hands-on' learner! Maya is challenging, but it has to be fun too!
Instead of throwing you into complexity, I guide you step by step—starting with the Maya interface and breaking it down into something simple, clear, and easy to navigate. We won't break down every button and function, just the ones you really need to know to get the job done!
Once you’re comfortable, we’ll gradually build your foundational skills and understanding of key concepts in whichever discipline you are interested in! We will talk about and demonstrate tools and techniques, so that you understand how they work and the best ways to use them! Then we will work on simplified examples that will further hone the skills you are developing. You will be able to work on these 'exercises' at your convenience, until you are feeling like you are ready to handle the creation of your own vision! I can introduce you to any Maya discipline you are interested in: Modeling, UV mapping & texturing, rigging, animation, lighting or rendering! Each has its own unique challenges, tools and techniques! Or, as I have mentioned, we can concentrate on one specific discipline, like polygon modeling, if you'd like! — all taught in a structured, beginner-friendly way that actually makes sense.
If you want to learn it all, I can even walk you through a CG production pipeline! I will introduce you to the core stages of the pipeline and we'll explore then together! you’ll learn how to take an idea and bring it to life through story-boarding, modeling, texturing, rigging, animation, lighting, and rendering!
By the end of the class, if you choose to learn all of the disciplines, you won’t just “know Maya”—you’ll have completed your own 3D project and built a solid foundation to keep growing your 3D skills.
If you’re ready to stop feeling stuck and start creating, I’ll guide you every step of the way. Let's create your vision!
Here's an example of what we'll cover in my 1st lesson
