About Kyu-Sang
I am currently employed as a software engineer working on privacy technology (and cybersecurity on the side) but I loved teaching back at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) where I was a course admin and tutor since 2020 so I'm spending some of my spare time to keep doing that. (See below for courses I taught) I have a broad skill set but specialize in Python, C, Java, AWS (incl. CDK + Terraform Framework), PostgreSQL, Bash Shell, Git and some components of the Linux kernel. The one exception is front-end related topics which I have not spent much time on. I can help in understanding concepts, check code, provide career tips and more. I've also been told that I am patient, friendly and thorough in anonymous course feedback so all you have to do is reach out with your needs and I'll be able to confirm if I can be of assistance. Experience: - Course administrator and/or tutor (2020-2022) for various offerings of the following courses at UNSW for both online and face-to-face classes: + COMP1521 Computer Systems Fundamentals (C, Assembly) + COMP2041 Software Construction: Techniques and Tools (Shell Script, Perl Script, Python) + COMP3311 Database Systems (SQL, PostgreSQL, Python) - High Distinction Honors Thesis involving the re-creation of an automated code testing and marking tool to include advanced features such as test containerization and parallelization while maintaining backward compatibility - Interned at a major investment bank and tech unicorn company - Currently employed at tech unicorn company as an intern to graduate role conversion Education: - BEng in Software Engineering (Class 1 Honors) @ UNSW - Educational Exchange (1 year) @ KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology) Policy: If I am actively involved in the teaching of courses at UNSW, I will not provide any tutoring for those courses until I am no longer actively involved. I will not perform any assistance on assessable material or other work that could be in breach of academic integrity. There are no exceptions to this.

My lessons are individually designed to the goals and outcomes set by each student. This can be rush sessions to understand key concepts for an assignment with a tight deadline or very detailed sessions on a variety of topics including fundamental concepts which are often overlooked to advanced topics. I am a big believer in enforcing software best practices such as proper code styling to ensure that all code written by my students now and into the future is likely to have minimal bugs while maintaining maximum reusability. Although I had to cut deeper content at times due to time and scheduling restrictions at UNSW, I will be able to explain the "behind-the-scenes" and trivia of any concepts and/or examples that we cover in our lessons. This can range from interesting features of languages such as Python context managers and C syntactic sugar all the way to Linux kernel features such as namespaces (the secret sauce to containers such as Docker). I suggest lessons run at a minimum of 1 hour but no longer than 3 hours at a time in normal circumstances. This can be adjusted according to the needs and/or abilities of the student. I mostly teach online via video call but may be able to travel upon request (very rare but possible).
