About Emma
As a non-native French speaker I can understand how complex and difficult the language might seem.
Due to the Covid19 pandemic, I felt especialy left behind during GCSEs but by using specific exam structure techniques and understanding how the marks are allocated I was able to develop a more efficient learning structure and managed to score a grade 9 at GCSE and an A at A-Level.
I, myself felt that I wasn't necessarily 'a language person' and would sometimes feel overwhelmed by the other fluent French speakers in the class, but I would really love to teach other students french in a way that is a lot less daunting and help you achieve your language goals.
I also hold the official B2 DELF diploma, so I am comfortable with teaching French at all levels and tailoring the lessons to your individual needs.

Before a typical lesson, I would ask you to send me some written exercises or past papers you have already completed so I can evaluate your level and understand which parts of French you are struggling with.
Because the grammar is the foundation of learning French, I will then create specific exercises to help you improve and share some efficient tips on how to memorise the rules easily.
Listening comprehension exercises might include translating radio or podcast excerpts together or even short films. I will also teach you shortcuts on how to understand and identity the key vocabularly used in listening excerpts in your GCSE papers.
Preparing for the written component usually involves pre-planning answers which will be packed with high level and complex vocabularly from a vocab list I will share with you.
In order to improve your speaking, we will tackle throughout the whole lesson by having short conversations in French or reading out passages so that you become ever more familiar with the sound of your voice speaking french. Tips like this make the actual exam seem incredibly less daunting and you will find yourself feeling a lot more comfortable.
When learning a new language, the way to master it is to immerse yourself in it, therefore, I will set you weekly exercises or send you weekly resources to look over before the lesson so that you do not fall back between weeks. However, if you already have an incredbily busy schedule, completing the work I assign you is not compulsory. We will simply review last week's lesson in the first 5 five minutes of the new one to keep your memory active.
I am flexible with timings so I can conduct 2+ hour lessons if wanted and during most days of the week. I would normally hold my lessons online or in a public library.
Lessons are for all GCSE students and the first lesson will be free.

Emma has been a fantastic teacher for my son. She is incredibly patient and has shared great learning techniques to help my son develop his English fluency and intensive reading. I have seen his confidence increase significantly. I would highly recommend Emma and so would my son!
Emma was really helpful and I have been able to improve a lot with her tutoring. I really struggled with the language papers and I found that Emma explains things in a very clear way and shows you how to write an answer that hits high grade boundaries. She also gave me a lot of useful vocabulary and sentence starters that make essay writing for me a lot easier. I would recommend her lessons to anyone who is struggling or needs some extra support!
Emma tutored me from the end of year 10 to year 11. I really struggled with both literature and language and was only getting grade 5 in both but with her help I was able to get a grade 9 in literature and 8 in language! She is very attentive and made me really enjoy a subject I found very difficult.
