I have an MA in Gender Studies and Feminist Research and I give lessons to people taking humanities and social science courses at the high school and undergraduate levels.
My teaching methodology is to understand how to support each student individually and finding ways to work collaboratively to meet their course goals. There is no one size fits all model for tutoring/teaching, as students have different learning styles. My go-to tutoring method is to review course material the week before their class in whatever way(s) students find they learn best (reviewing one concept at a time, together/they review everything before meeting me and we come together to discuss/I deliver a lecture and we discuss together after/etc) so students go into the week prepared. At the end of each week, we touch base to dig deeper into concepts that need additional review and we stay on top of course assignments.
I believe the best tutors foster opportunities for students to learn good study habits and tools to understand course concepts and expectations, and work with students to find tutoring strategies that work best for their learning styles.
I have offered private tutoring to high school and undergraduate students on and off for the last 10 years, specializing in understanding theory in the fields of social studies and assisting in the essay writing process from brainstorming ideas to creating outlines to reviewing drafts. As a teaching assistant for two years I taught introductory gender studies courses with 25-30 students. My background is in gender studies, critical race theory, and research methodologies.
I founded a business after graduate school, where I was a teaching and research assistant, and now offer tutoring services as a way to connect with and support students with course expectations, assignments, understanding theory, as well as assisting with essay writing.
