About Rachel
I have been tutoring students of all ages -from high school to graduate school- for over 20 years with amazing success. Of the 10,000 or more students I have taught and tutored, 95 percent showed improved writing outcomes and a better understanding of the writing process itself. When I tutor my students I give them a simple template to follow which when used consistently, guarantees the best possible results. Granted we are not all brilliant writers. Innate talent is a factor but so is the effort they put in. I often tell my students not to expect more out of any process than they are willing to put in. To give you an analogy: writing is like learning to play a musical instrument; some people are naturally more gifted than others and not everyone who plays the piano ends up on the concert circuit. By the same token, all serious students can at least learn the basics.
When I tutor my students, the talent, and effort they bring to the writing process will ultimately determine the outcome. Some have to work harder to achieve results; some have a natural affinity. In other words, talent certainly helps but even more critical is the effort they put in.

My teaching methodology is individualized and tailored to meet each student's needs. With over twenty years of teaching and tutoring experience under my belt, I know that starting where the student is and moving forward from there guarantees the best results. For instance, learning how to write an Introduction, Thesis Statement and Outline are the building blocks of any essay, regardless of topic. Whether you are in high school, taking college courses in English Fundamentals, Composition, Research, Business Writing, the Humanities, or even writing a Dissertation, knowing understanding the essential rules of essay writing and consistently using them is more than half the battle.
Important characteristics of a great tutor start with making sure your students enjoy the experience. On top of that, one must have endless patience, compassion, understanding, a great sense of humor and the ability to instill confidence so they can be independent learners; the goal is to stretch them without stressing them out.
