About Jacqueline
STEM education and tutoring is one of my passions. I think focused tutoring with immediate feedback is an effective way of learning, so throughout my time in college I volunteered as a tutor in K-12 schools. Additionally, I worked part time as a physics tutor for undergrad physics courses at my school, where I hosted weekly workshops to help students ace their engineering physics courses.
My degree is in biomechanical engineering, and I also have 3 years of professional experience as a mechanical engineer and 3 years of professional experience as a bioinformatician. Currently, I'm beginning grad school for computational biology.
This background has given me a solid foundation in physics, biology, math, and chemistry, and it's my goal to make sure the students I work with are super successful and confident in their STEM courses!

As a tutor focused on STEM (K-12 and college) subjects, I spend a lot of time curating and collecting practice problems. I've found that actually solving problem sets is an efficient way to learn, and I know that learning core concepts often comes from applying those concepts.
For physics problems specifically, I implement a set of steps I learned from a fluid mechanics class for semi-foolproof problem solving: (1) Draw a diagram of the problem with any numeric labels (2) List any assumptions (aka earth gravity, no air resistance, etc) (3) List the known variables, including symbol, value, units (4) List the unknown variables/ the variable you want to find (5) Decide on the relevant equation (or system of equations if there are more than one unknown variable) (6) Solve and check the units as you go.
