About Helen
As part of my nursing role, I mentored student nurses and provided clinical supervision in both theory and practice. I also worked for Adult Education from 2002-2005. I passed the Certificate of English Teaching to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) in 2018 and have been teaching English to adults with face-to-face classes for over a year. I have taught online and have mentored non-UK nationals who wish to gain access to employment within the healthcare professions since gaining my CELTA qualification last year, bringing together all my educational qualifications and working experiences. Within the voluntary sector, I worked for an international NGO called Tareto Maa for nearly ten years and had a central role in communications, networking, and mediation.

I started working in healthcare in 1982 and as a Registered Nurse from 1986-2012. For the last eight years, I have worked in an education setting. At present, I work with both children and adults whose English is not their first language and as a support worker for speech and language development, working alongside speech and language therapists in a primary school setting. My new business English to care is based on central values of care and compassion and I work with a student-centred approach, working on strengths and enabling confidence. My lesson structure involves discussing personal goals, analysis of writing and implementing an action plan of agreed learning objectives. I like to work in an informal and relaxed atmosphere and to evaluate progress together to plan future learning goals. Within the heart of my lessons, I like to work with honesty, trust, and credibility to build up a professional relationship with my students. I want my students to feel supported and empowered so that they can achieve their life goals.
