I believe first in responding to a students needs and wishes in what he or she wants to focus on. If ESL then, is it conversation, or if more in depth, grammar and vocabulary as well. A lesson plan, homework, creativity and centering on subject matter that interests the student should be the primary focus.

Mr. Arusha was a very patient teacher who made learning English fun for my daughter. I met him through a neighbor who had recommended him.
