About Bryan
When I took Algebra 2 in high school, I hated it. It seemed like endless derivation and practice problems with no “why”. My primary motivation is to awaken the awareness that math is a tool of expressing relationships, where those ideas are historically founded, and how these ideas will build understanding of realms beyond math. I do not believe in “plug and chug”. Practice problems are necessary, but not the goal. Understanding is the goal. Some students require more exercise, some more descriptions of ideas. I am more than happy to accommodate different learning styles. The common response of “why do I need to know this?” will hopefully be replaced by a deep hunger for further understanding, like turning the page of a beloved book.

Lesson approach:
Attention grabber ->
relevance of idea ->
board derivation w/ special attention to limiting factors ->
independent derivations ->
group derivations and discussion (if grouped) (similar to creative writing, expanding and comprehending ideas together to cover blindspots)
I am deeply interested in the history of mathematics, lending a grounding historical perspective.
