About Matan

Hi! I'm Matan, a fourth-year Computer Engineering student at Queen's University. I’m passionate about solving complex problems and love the feeling of finally cracking a tough question, especially in advanced math, calculus, and physics. What really drives me as a tutor is that I’ve been in your shoes. I’ve worked through the exact same kinds of challenges you’re facing now, so I understand what it’s like to feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure where to start. That’s why I focus on breaking things down clearly, walking through problems together step by step, and making sure the “why” behind every concept actually makes sense. My goal is to help you gain real confidence in your abilities, not just by getting the right answers, but by truly understanding how to get there on your own.

About the lesson

As a tutor, I take a hands-on, student-centered approach which is focused on active problem-solving and deep conceptual understanding. My sessions are designed around the idea that learning is most effective when it feels like solving a puzzle - step by step, with questions, exploration, and a-ha moments along the way.

I specialize in guiding students through advanced math, calculus, and physics by working through challenging problems collaboratively. I tend to talk through each step, ask probing questions to spark critical thinking, and encourage students to explain their reasoning. This helps solidify their understanding and builds confidence in applying concepts to new problems.

A typical session begins with a quick review of key concepts related to the topic we’re tackling. From there, we jump into practice problems, starting with simpler ones to warm up and build context, then moving to more complex, multi-step challenges. We work through each one together.

What makes me different is my collaborative style, I treat each lesson like a shared intellectual challenge, not a lecture. My goal isn’t just to help students get the right answer, but to understand the process deeply enough to tackle any variation of the problem on their own. I also bring energy and patience to every session, making even complex topics feel approachable and engaging. I don’t just teach—I learn alongside my students, adjusting the lesson in real-time based on how they're responding.

My lessons are geared toward high school and university students taking advanced math, calculus, or physics courses. No matter the level, I focus on turning frustration into clarity and helping students feel in control of their learning.
