About Ray
I am a recent graduate (2023) from the University of Chichester with a degree in Politics and Contemporary History BA Hons, achieving a high 2:1 upon completion of my studies. My dissertation was awarded first class marks, as were many of my other summative assignments in other modules. My research skills were consistently praised by lecturers with grades as high as 80 in some assignments. I am currently working in the NHS in Emergency Care and will be starting a MA History degree at Durham University, one of the most competitive universities in the UK and a world top 100 institution, for which I have an unconditional offer for September 2025 entry. I held the position of student representative during all three years of my degree and was nominated for Student Representative of the Year in 2021. During the 2020 Covid lockdown I was partially responsible for teaching my sibling in year seven, who has autism and learning difficulties, his school content, assisting him in history and English. I have continued casually tutoring him up until he left school in Year 11. I am DBS certified (last certificate issued October 2023).

Typical study methods include flashcard, recall, blurting method and 'teach it back'. PEEL method used for improving essay structure for secondary and GCSE students. Lesson structure - pre-agreed topic to work or area to work through, short reading of section of content and discussion/consolidation of knowledge. Wrap up with any concerns from student/guardian and decide on topic for next session. I primarily tutor secondary and GCSE students but I am happy to provide assistance to undergraduates studying history who are wishing to improve their research, essay and note organisational skills. Lessons flexible 45-60 minutes 1:1 depending on preference and needs of student, happy to teach at evenings and weekends dependent on availability.
