About Jessica

I am a French tutor with 5 years of experience and a Bachelor of Arts in French alongside personal experience working as an au pair in a French family during my own early career, which directly informs my understanding of the specific linguistic and cultural challenges this role presents. I have worked with over 145 students, predominantly au pairs, nannies, and childcare professionals preparing for or currently working in French-speaking households. My personal experience navigating exactly this role gives my teaching genuine practical authenticity and specific lived understanding of what this work actually requires linguistically and culturally.

About the lesson

My French teaching specializes in preparing au pairs, nannies, and childcare professionals working with French-speaking families, addressing the specific vocabulary and communication skills this role requires. I begin with children's vocabulary specifically — the words and phrases French-speaking children use and that childcare providers need to understand and use fluently, including playground vocabulary, toy and activity names, and the specific register that engages young children. Discipline and behavior management language in French is addressed because childcare providers need to set boundaries, give instructions, and manage children's behavior clearly and appropriately within the cultural and linguistic context of a French-speaking household. Safety communication receives priority attention because the ability to communicate clearly and quickly about safety concerns is a genuine responsibility of childcare roles that requires confident, immediate French vocabulary. I teach the specific vocabulary of daily childcare routines — mealtimes, bedtime, bath time, getting dressed — because these recurring daily interactions form the bulk of actual communication in this role. Family integration vocabulary helps au pairs and nannies communicate effectively with parents about the child's day, behavior, and needs. Reading children's books aloud in French with appropriate pronunciation, intonation, and expression is practiced specifically because this is a common and valuable childcare activity. Games, songs, and rhymes commonly used with French-speaking children are taught because these cultural touchpoints help childcare providers connect genuinely with the children in their care.
