About Claire

My name is Claire Werth I'm 25 years old living in my hometown San Diego CA. I have been studying the French language since my Freshman year of high school in 2015. I continued learning the language through high school until I passed the French AP exam. Then moved on to San Diego Mesa College where I received an Associate's Degree in French Language. I then became a tutor for the same French courses I took at the college. After a year I decided to move on to teaching. I became a preschool teacher at Le Lycée Français de San Diego where I stayed for 2 years. Getting to know the French community in San Diego has been a wonderful experience and finally I was ready to experience France for myself. I applied to TAPIF (Teaching Assistant Program in France) early in 2025 and in September 2025 I left for France. I spent the last 7 months there teaching and experiencing the incredible culture. My French language skills improved exponentially during this time and I'm left with memories I'll cherish forever. French is my passion and I'm eager to share this passion and knowledge with everyone.

About the lesson

Throughout my years of French lessons and tutoring the number 1 method I have seen work for myself, my peers and my own students is to only speak in the language that we're teaching/learning. During my lessons, French will be the main language spoken although English will be introduced when absolutely necessary to explain a subject. The student will sit down with me wherever he/she feels most comfortable and we will start with simple greetings and introductions in French. Depending on their age/ French level I will evaluate what topics will be appropriate for following visits. I can provide worksheets and practice assignments to complete during our sessions and or autonomously. I believe it's important to encourage proper accent, to discover colloquial phrases and jargon and to delve into cultural history as a means to understand the "why?" which will enhance language proficiency. I am experienced in teaching all ages from 2 up but I specialize in 6-11 year olds.
