About Delphine

I was a computer programmer, due to my husband’s job, we travelled in differents countries with our daughters. They both did the International Baccalaureate. I had the opportunity to tutor French as a second language to students from different backgrounds and levels at the schools. Additionally, I obtained the Cambridge English advanced level, allowing to me to work with English speakers.

About the lesson

I base my classes off my students’ needs. If my student needs help with their writing then I like to go back to the basics in grammar, if needed, to ensure the student is comfortable with the grammar before working on the different themes or topics in their syllabus. In regards to speaking, I aim for my students to gain confidence in speaking by conducting a majority of the class in French, while holding casual conversations. Once the student has that confidence we will tackle the oral exam style kind of questions. Moreover, I believe that speaking and listening must be tackled together as with listening the student will hear how certain words are pronounced and therefore allow them to increase their performance in regards to pronunciation for the speaking exam. Finally, depending on the student’s level in reading, we will go over different text types varying from the different topics they may be assigned on. Furthermore, it will be important to establish a vocabulary list for each theme/topic to allow them to comprehend reading texts better. This will also allow students to gain vocabulary for their writing exam preparation. This method mainly targets students in secondary school and individuals who wish to learn French as a second language. Finally, for students who wish to have their work proofread, I offer extensive feedback to ensure they understand my corrections and consequently do not make the same mistakes in their next assignments.
