About Katie
Hello! My name is Katie Scollon and I started working as a French tutor at the age of 14 as I have a French educational background and am therefore fluent. I was able to maintain over 12 students working part-time through high school. Subsequently I got my DELF and successfully transitioned students online to accomodate barriers put in place by COVID-19. Having worked with children 5 years old to 14 years old, I am comfortable teaching a diverse array of levels and am very skilled at adapting my lesson plans to the individual so that sessions are fun enough to be engaging but are still focused and always centered around learning.

Hello! My name is Katie and I offer French lessons for children between the ages of 5 and 17. I am a Biotechnology major with 6 years of French tutoring experience I and always strive to create engaging and dynamic lesson plans for each of my students.
My teaching style:
After taking the time to evaluate the individual child's current french knowledge, I like to move into some fun activities that encourage French speaking habits and help to engage students, whether this be flashcards to practice phonetics or a guessing game to encourage them to use adjectives and use proper sentence structure out loud. The structure of my lesson plans and my teaching style are of course adapted to suit each child's learning needs, however, I will normally dedicate a portion of each lesson to reading out loud, regardless of the level, in order to expand ones vocabulary. I also like to regularly check in with both the child and their parents in order to identify and address any curriculum specific struggles so that each of my students is successful and feels confident in their abilities. Once appropriate for the level, I will typically proceed with grammar and conjugation lessons and, if the parents approve, may assign small amounts of homework to keep my students thinking about what they learned between lessons.
